Hail is not your typical natural disaster that first comes to mind when you hear those words but it causes billions in damage each year to crops and vehicles.
If you find yourself caught in a hail storm, try to find shelter as soon as possible. You can use your car's or cell phone's GPS to find the nearest covered location. These locations include; parking garages, gas stations, etc.
If you're unable to find shelter during a hail storm, to avoid dents and dings you can cover your car with blankets or a hail car cover. These may not stop all dent and dings from occurring but they will reduce them and save you money.
One of the easiest things you can do is check the weather for severe storms in your area. If there is a chance for hail, try to find a covered parking spot at work or make sure to park in the garage at home.
If you forgot to pack your blankets or a hail car cover, you can use your floor mats to place over your windshield to help prevent the hail from breaking it. It's not the best option but at least it's something.
If you live in a location where it typically hails, it might be a good idea to have comprehensive or rental insurance just in case you find yourself caught in a hail storm. Hail damage can be costly and nobody wants to be stuck with a high bill or without your car for a few days.
If you don't have a covered area to park under then it might be a good idea to purchase a carport or if you live in an apartment, you might want to rent covered parking.
If you're caught in a hail storm while driving and large sized hail is hitting your car, pull over and cover up with a blanket just in case the hail were to break any glass in your vehicle.
If there is a chance for hail, try to park your vehicle in a safe spot at work, so your car can stay protected. If you noticed the storm coming from a certain direction, then move your car to the opposite side to try to avoid it.
Always stay protected during a hail storm and do not leave your vehicle unless it's necessary as hail can cause serious bodily damage.
Make sure to listen to the weather during a hail storm or any storm for that matter, so you can stay safe and make decisions as necessary.
